The Patriot’s Inn

Located close to Kilmainham Gaol, The Patriot’s Inn is a cozy spot to visit for lunch or just a few drinks.

Jack and I came here right after our tour and were happy to find that they had a lunch special offering panini and soup for €8.50. Service was polite and the food came quickly, although the waitress seemed puzzled over our request for hot water as opposed to any other drink. I thought the other meals seemed quite decently priced too, but we made soup a priority because of the nippy weather outside.

The soup, which was a rich and creamy vegetable soup (tomato-based, I believe), was savoury and warmed us right to our toes. The panini we ordered were both piping hot: crisp on the outside and cheesy on the inside. Jack opted for the parma ham, brie, rocket and tomato sandwich, while I went for caramelized onions over rocket.

Both were good combinations, although I preferred the sweetness of my onions to the bitterness of Jack’s rocket.

Pros: Simple, straightforward and very tasty food is offered here in a cozy, well-lit pub.

Cons: No complaints here on any aspect, really. No frills on the meal, but being straightforward is never a bad thing.

I am aware that there are possibly cheaper lunch deals around, but you really can’t go wrong with a meal like ours at this location. Thanks, Patriot’s Inn!
